Slow Food Nation
Sep 9th, 2008 by All Good
We realize the lateness of this blog about such an inspiring and moving movement, but we recognize the importance of mentioning it nonetheless. Slow Food Nation is a subsidiary non-profit of Slow Food USA and part of the international Slow Food movement. The need for sustainable, good and fair food ignited the creation of this organization, which is also the first American collaborative to promote the growing of sustainable food. The first annual event of Slow Food Nation took place during the Labor Day Weekend of this year. The festival reached out to thousands of Americans and brought to consciousness the objective of this organization and other Slow Food partners:
We believe that everyone has a fundamental right to pleasure and consequently the responsibility to protect the heritage of food, tradition and culture that make this pleasure possible. Our movement is founded upon this concept of eco-gastronomy – a recognition of the strong connections between plate and planet.
Slow Food is good, clean and fair food. We believe that the food we eat should taste good; that it should be produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health; and that food producers should receive fair compensation for their work.
We consider ourselves co-producers, not consumers, because by being informed about how our food is produced and actively supporting those who produce it, we become a part of and a partner in the production process.
San Francisco hosted the Slow Food Nation event and reported a crowd of 60,000 who attended. In a world run by fast food restaurants and chains, the thousands who took time out to learn about healthy living inspire us to advocate for this same cause. Want to join in and promote healthy eating? Keep reading…
We mentioned that Slow Food Nation is a subsidiary non-profit of Slow Food USA and to try and summarize the good work that both organizations, as well as others, are doing would make this blog a novel and therefore days to read. In order provide you with the right materials to begin your journey to good, healthy and sustainable eating, we are including the websites below and are urging you all to check it out!
